FileMaker Developer Conference 2012: Break Through

On July 16-19, 2012, FileMaker will host the annual FileMaker Developer Conference in Miami, Florida.  With over 70 sessions and workshops, DevCon is the place to get all the latest FileMaker news and meet some of the best FileMaker professionals in the field.

Team members from Soliant Consulting will be at the conference all four days, both at the Exhibitor’s Showcase and as session speakers. CEO Bob Bowers and expert FileMaker Developers Wim Decorte and Aaron Gutleben will be speaking at this year’s conference.

Bob Bowers’ sessions:

On Tuesday, July 17th at 2:00pm: FTS: Calculations Calculation functions are the lifeblood of FileMaker. They are used throughout the application, for everything from defining fields to scripting, security, and conditional formatting. If there’s one thing that can make you a better FileMaker developer across the board, it’s having a solid grounding in the use of calculation functions. In this session, you’ll learn about the core calculations that every FileMaker developer needs to be adept with, as well as practical applications of their use. Note: A Gold Pass is required for all FTS sessions. Attendees will receive one DVD of the FTS materials (includes modules, videos, exercise and demo files).

On Thursday, July 19th at 9:00am: Advanced Reporting Techniques While the basic subsummary report effectively addresses many reporting needs, it’s not the only tool available to the advanced FileMaker developer. Through some creative uses of summary fields, scripts, calculation functions, charts, and even the Web Viewer, attendees of this session will learn several advanced techniques for generating reports. The session will include demonstrations of solutions to practical, real world reporting needs.

Wim Decorte’s sessions:

On Wednesday, July 18th at 9:00am: FileMaker Server: New and Improved Features for Maximum Stability FileMaker Server is the cornerstone of a stable FileMaker Pro solution deployment and performs a wide variety of crucial tasks. In this session we will go deep into the tools that FileMaker Server provides to take control of deployment, and we will also have a look at the monitoring that you can do to ensure the health of your FileMaker Server is consistently reliable.

On Thursday, July 19th at 3:45pm: Backup Strategies for Restful Slumber In this session we will look at implementing a redundant and reliable back-up strategy that when consistently maintained, will give you peace of mind that your data may be successfully restored in the event of a failure. Backups are a cornerstone of a workable Disaster Recover strategy, and this is the session to learn what you can do to avoid sleepless nights.

Aaron Gutleben’s sessions:

On Wednesday, July 18th at 2:00pm: FTS: Server If you need to share your solution with many users, FileMaker Server is the tool to use. In this session, attendees will learn about FileMaker Server, how to deploy and configure FileMaker Server and how to take advantage of its ability to assist in the automation of business process by running FileMaker scripts. In addition, attendees will spend some time learning about how to create and automate a robust backup strategy. Note: A Gold Pass is required for all FTS sessions. Attendees will receive one DVD of the FTS materials (includes modules, videos, exercise and demo files).

On Thursday, July 19th at 10:45am: FTS: FileMaker Go FileMaker Go provides a way for users to go “mobile” with any application, but developers need to be aware of the caveats presented by a mobile environment. This session takes attendees through Module 13 from the FileMaker Training Series by introducing FileMaker Go, discussing how FileMaker Pro features relate to FileMaker Go, and reviewing more advanced topics such as transactional processing of records to ensure data integrity in a mobile environment.
