Top 4 Benefits of Migrating to the Cloud

The following was taken from a recent technology roundtable discussion in which we participated. This post takes the opportunity to expand on that exchange.

There are a number of benefits to consider when planning your cloud migration. As with anything, you’ll face benefits and liabilities. In this blog post, we would like to examine some of the bigger benefits and how they might impact your business.

1. Cost Savings

Probably the most common reason to consider moving to the cloud is cost savings. These can come in a number of ways, including the cost of purchasing hardware, which must be shipped, delivered, placed, and configured before being operational. You are stuck with it for the duration, whereas cloud infrastructure does not necessarily have to follow the same rules. You can only pay for what you need, and adjust automatically in either direction, up or down.

2. Time Savings

You also save significant time in building and maintaining infrastructure comparable to on-premise infrastructure. Scalability also comes into play here. You can swiftly build up or tear down architecture, enabling the agility to meet actual demand and giving you an advantage in the marketplace.

3. Simplified Accounting

Cloud infrastructure also simplifies accounting, as periodic capital expenditures become predictable operating expenses. On-premise hardware involves significant paperwork and tracking, including managing leases and terms and so on. That largely goes away with cloud infrastructure.

4. Security

Businesses also benefit from the level of security of cloud platforms, as many organizations struggle to achieve an equitable level of security on their own. Large providers like AWS include security features with their offerings and continue to improve in this area. You benefit from working with their extensive tools and frameworks to increase your overall security.
