Introducing the Web Viewer Integrations Library

This is the first in the series of videos about the Web Viewer Integrations Library.

The Web Viewer in FileMaker, allows you to build deeper functionality by integrating web libraries into a custom application. In this video, Jeremy Brown introduces the Web Viewer Integrations Library free for your use.

Video Transcript:

Hello everyone! This is Jeremy Brown with Soliant Consulting.

In this video, I’m going to introduce to you the Web Viewer Integrations Library. This is a file I’ve been working on for quite some time that is a result of sort of an obsession of mine. I’ll tell you about that in a bit.

I’m pleased to present to you for free, completely open and unlocked for you to use. Let’s take a look.

The web viewer has been an obsession of mine for a couple of years now. I’ve tried to find any excuse to use it in projects or in my own time. In the last two-or-so years, I’ve created different sample files that are scattered throughout my computer, showing a particular web viewer example. I have a Google Maps somewhere, I have charting somewhere, and I have some data tables. Some colleagues of mine, Mike Duncan and Ross Johnson, have written about how they have integrated the web viewer into FileMaker.  It occurred to me one day — why not just put all of these together? So, this library was born.

The library that we present to you today contains 22 different integrations that use FileMaker data that work very well inside FileMaker.

While putting this file together, I had two goals. The first goal was to find integrations that made sense in FileMaker that solved a typical use case. For example, I have a Google auto-complete address integration which allows the user to start typing in an address and have Google fill out the rest of the full address. That’s pretty handy.

Also, I have a couple of photo albums here, a nice modern way to display container data. Each of the integrations that I found had to fit into this file so that they could be easily extracted and pushed into any custom app very simply and easily.

So, there you have it: 22 complete integrations that will work very well in your custom app.

I’m excited to show this to you. Stay tuned for other videos. We’re going to walk through the integrations library. We’re going to take a look at how to manipulate a particular integration. We’re also going to take a look at how to push an integration to your own custom app. We’ll spend some time looking at specific integrations and see unique aspects of each one of them.

I’m pretty happy to be able to present this to you. I hope you find it useful. It’s already proven useful to me and my colleagues here at Soliant, so I hope it will be good for you as well. Thanks for watching. Please stay tuned to our web page for other videos and blog posts about this awesome new library. Thank you! Have a great day.
