This 4-day FileMaker-authorized course helps you master the essential skills required for developing and deploying solutions in FileMaker Pro 9. Highly interactive instruction and hands-on exercises focus on providing students with a solid foundation in using the FileMaker Pro family of technologies.

We encourage attendance by anyone who regularly uses FileMaker Pro and wants to customize their database to enhance the user experience.

Classes
Classes are held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (the coffee's on at 8:30 a.m., so feel free to come early). This course is also offered in a "split" version, wherein the 4 days are spread across 2 different weeks. This version is more convenient for local students who find it difficult to dedicate most of a week to a class. While a 4-day course can't provide enough time to cover the entire FTS body of knowledge, our classroom agenda is packed with crucial how-to knowledge and professional developer best practices. Working with Fields
Learn practical skills required to define FileMaker data tables and fields. Understand data types and options for auto-entry, validation, indexing, and field storage. Discover how to manage images and other objects in container fields

Data Modeling
Learn how to construct one-to-many and many-to-many data relationships, ensure data integrity, and implement multiple-table solutions. Learn techniques for using portals.

Layouts
Understand how layout objects are formatted and controlled. Learn how to modify the behaviors of fields, labels, portals, tab controls, Web viewers, and other layout objects. Learn to create dynamic value lists and helpful, informative tool tips. Acquire techniques for applying the conditional formatting and auto-resize features new in 9.

Calculations
Learn how to use the calculation engine in FileMaker to create or transform numbers, text, dates, graphics, and other types of data. Explore in depth some of the hundreds of built-in functions. Learn how to build your own custom functions.

Scripts
Discover how to automate workflows and interact with users. Learn how to build navigation and window controls, study logical branching and looping routines, and absorb scripting best practices.

Reporting
Practice building reports, using a variety of techniques. Create sub-summary reports that group information by break fields. Explore other ways of sharing or printing data as text, email, Adobe PDF and Microsoft Excel documents.

Security
Learn FileMaker's unified security model. Create user accounts, and learn how to grant or restrict privileges. Enforce control of both access and authoring rights, and extend security with scripting.

FileMaker Server
Learn the process of hosting files, to better share data with more users. Understand how to prepare files for hosting, and manage databases and clients through the Server Admin Console new in 9.

Web Publishing
Understand the capabilities of both Instant Web Publishing (IWP) and Custom Web Publishing (CWP), and learn how to develop solutions to publish databases live via the Web.
