“The Soliant-Symantec partnership was an exemplary model in which IT, the consumer products business unit and Soliant's consultants collaborated as one seamless team. SMART was one of our most smoothly run projects, executed on time and within budget.”
Symantec, a global leader in providing security, storage and systems management solutions, faced a challenge in its consumer products business unit. The consumer products group handles rebate offers for Symantec's market-leading desktop products. Managing hundreds of rebate offers across multiple product lines, such as Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security, and multiple channel partners was a daunting task. Much of the key tracking and analysis was performed in spreadsheets or in disparate, non-integrated online applications. Laborious hand work and cross-tabulation was necessary in order to compile and track key results.

Symantec's consumer products unit partnered with Soliant in search of a scalable web-based application that could be deployed smoothly in multiple geographies. The desired application needed to unify all of the disparate sources of product and rebate data in a single repository, and perform automatic aggregation of rebate performance for easier analysis. The software would be easily available to marketing and finance professionals, and would provide a clear, up to date view of current performance data.
"Soliant's work has saved dozens of hours every week that we used to spend manipulating spreadsheets. Now we can browse all of our data through a single hub, and are able to make better, more timely decisions."Eli StatonChannel Programs Manager
Soliant began by reviewing the workflow processes for the various international groups responsible for rebates at Symantec, assisted in reconciling business processes, defined the application, and created a complete requirements definition and project plan.

To ensure scalability, and to provide a zero-deployment tool, the team selected the Force.com platform from Salesforce.com. The platform delivered a straightforward web interface, backed by a powerful business logic and reporting engine that keeps key metrics at its users' fingertips
"Soliant took a complex business process and turned it into a clean, unified web application. We used to have to put our data together by hand, like a jigsaw puzzle. Now it's all in one place."Lynn HargroveDirector, Consumer Marketing
With the new web-based system, users from anywhere in Symantec's world-wide network can access up-to-date information. There are no performance disparities across geographies: users in California and Canada have equallly rapid access to their data. Little to no IT desktop support is required across these diverse geographies, and Symantec looks forward to rolling additional geographies into the mix. Ongoing IT costs will not rise dramatically as the application expands, given Symantec's substantial installed Salesforce base: in a cloud-based world, substantial new application functionality is delivered to users without burdening IT with substantial new recurring costs
