“SMART was one of the most smoothly run projects I've ever seen: this project has already been nominated for several awards within Symantec. The Soliant team did a fantastic job partnering with our Project Management Office.”
Symantec, a global leader in providing security, storage and systems management solutions, faced a challenge in its Consumer Products area division. The Consumer Marketing group handles rebate offers for Symantec's market-leading desktop products. Managing dozens to hundreds of rebate offers across multiple product lines, such as Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security, and multiple channel partners (such as Best Buy and Amazon) was a daunting task. Much of the key analysis was performed in spreadsheets or in disparate, non-integrated online applications. Laborious hand work and cross-tabulation was necessary in order to compile and track key results.
Symantec's consumer group partnered with Soliant in search of a scalable web-based application that could be deployed smoothly in multiple geographies around the world. The desired application needed to unify all of the disparate sources of product and rebate data in a single repository and perform automatic analysis of rebate performance. The software would be easily available to marketing and finance professionals, and would provide a clear, up to date view of current performance data.
"Soliant's work has saved dozens of hours every week that we used to spend manipulating spreadsheets. Now we react to live data and are able to make much better, more timely decisions."Eli StatonManager, Channel Marketing Programs
Soliant began by reviewing the workflow process for the various international groups responsible for rebates at Symantec, assisted in reconciling business processes, defined the application, and created a complete requirements definition and project plan.
"Soliant's complete understanding of both our business process and technology needs meant they really 'got it'."Steve DamManager, Channel Marketing Finance
To ensure scalability, and to provide a zero-deployment tool, the team selected the Force.com platform from Salesforce.com. The platform delivered an intuitive web interface, backed by a powerful business logic and reporting engine that keeps key metrics at its users' fingertips.
"Soliant took a complex business process and turned it into a straightforward, unified web application. We used to have to put our data together by hand, like a jigsaw puzzle. Now it's all in one place."Eli StatonManager, Channel Marketing Programs
With the new web-based system, users from anywhere in Symantec's world-wide network can access up-to-date information, with no performance disparities.
