Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Bords?
  • Bords is a revolutionary way to capture ideas and organize them into a visual space. It combines the best aspects of working with a whiteboard, sticky notes and shapes into one app.
  • What are it's primary features?
  • Bords uses a whiteboard-like space to let you express and explore your ideas. Take a look at the thumbnails on Features, you can create free-hand designs with markers or use shape objects and labels for a more rigid layout. You can use sticky notes to organize more complex ideas, and organize these notes into stacks for easy of management.
  • How do I draw?
  • Bords let you draw or erase your art in a separate mode from working with notes and objects. Tap the pen tool to go into draw mode, control the pen weight and ink color as properties, and tap "done" to return to working with objects.
  • What does the Spyglass on the left margin do?
  • The Spyglass opens a pop over window that provides a mini view of your board. Tap anywhere to jump to that section of your board without having to zoom out.
  • Can I create new boards?
  • Yes: create, rename, or delete any board in your library from the "My Boards" screen. Apply one of five styles for your board (whiteboard, metal frame, chalkboard, grid paper, or corkboard) as well.
  • How do I Search?
  • The search feature lets you find and go directly to any typed content, including sticky notes, text objects, and board names. Simply enter some text in the search dialog and you'll see the results filter below. Tap a row to immediately jump to the board and object you select.
  • Can I share a board?
  • Yes, you can email high quality jpg or pdf versions of your board to friends and colleagues. We're thinking of adding more robust sharing in future versions... please visit our Discussion page and let us know if that or other features would be useful.
  • What is the Library screen?
  • All your boards live in the "My Boards" library screen. There are three ways to view your library: as a list, as a grid, or as a cover-flow preview. Here you will create, delete, rename, and even duplicate your boards.
  • What are Shape Objects?
  • Bords provides simple objects for those of us who are, let's say, "drawing-challenged": squares, circles, triangles, lines, text objects, and images help get ideas on the screen. These objects can be scaled and formatted to fit your needs, including border and fill color, as well as line weight.
Here's a great shortcut tip: use a two-finger tap anywhere on a board to bring up the Create Menu and place your objects.
  • How do I add an image to my board?
  • You can place any image in your iPad Photos app into your board. Tap the Create button then choose "Photographs". You can move, scale, and choose a border for your images.
  • If I delete an image in my Photos, will I loose it in Bords?
  • No, images placed on your board are saved to Bords and are not linked to your Photos app.
  • How can I customize the Line Object?
  • Choose from 8 different end styles for a line, including arrows, as well as adjust the weight, and color to fit your needs.
  • The Lines are created horizontally, can I rotate them?
  • Yes, with a double-tap the line will rotate 45°; twisting with two fingers rotates a selected line to any angle you require.
  • What is a Template?
  • A template is a group of objects on a board that you might want to recreate many times. You can create a note, say, with some text already on it... maybe a boilerplate blurb or perhaps some labels for a form... or you can create objects and lay them out relative to each other. Once saved, you can add this collection to a board via the create menu.
  • How do I work with Templates?
  • To establish a new template, select some objects and then choose "Save As Template" from the Properties (gear icon) menu. In the create objects menu (the "+" icon or two-finger tap), "From Template..." will allow you to add those objects as a group with their relative positioning as well.
  • What if I have feedback?
  • We are very interested in hearing from you. Please submit feedback and questions, or just visit to say hello, on our discussion forum for Bords.
  • Do I need to register Bords?
  • No, the application does not require any registration, though you will need to log in to your iTunes account in order to download the application from the App Store.
  • Who created Bords?
  • Bords is the vision of Soliant Consulting. We build custom web sites, databases, and software for businesses… and brainstorm all the time with our clients. We created Bords to bring some of our process onto the iPad. We hope it's as helpful for you as it has been for us.
